According to a post on the official Eurovision Song Contest website, Europe's favourite singing competition will make the journey across the waters to America where The American Song Contest is due to take place in 2021. Doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it?

Commenting on the news, Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest said:

"The Eurovision Song Contest’s unique legacy dates back 65 years and its worldwide popularity is still rising.

It’s time for America to experience this spectacle, through its sister competition, the American Song Contest.

Love of music is universal and celebration of music in different genres and styles can transcend boundaries and unite people.

We are excited to have found the right partners to offer another series that our fans across the globe can fall in love with and to share this unique competition with the American people."

Well, alrighty then.

Including some of the top global minds in entertainment, music and television it's believed that the team behind The American Song Contest will even include Ben Silverman, a prolific producer and TV exec who is credited with helping to propel The US Office to international acclaim.
