First Dates Ireland returned to our screens on RTÉ2 last night and there was one couple people were really rooting for.
Shane and Avril had a lovely time, and it was actually Shane’s first date in 14 years since suffering a brain injury. After he tells producers that he’s afraid of getting hurt, our hearts instantly sank. This man deserves the WORLD. Luckily, a lovely gal called Avril came along and the two got on like a house on fire.
As a single mother, Avril also has;t had a first date in quite some time. After getting to know each other, Shane declares it was the best first date he’s ever had. Guys, I was sobbing. And it seems like everyone else was as overjoyed as I was.
One viewer took to Twitter to say, “Avril and Shane on @FirstDates I am absolutely sobbing. What a beautiful couple. Shane is just something else. My eyes are raw from crying”.

Another said, “Shane on first dates tonight had my heart! Something that really hit home for me, you don’t know how much your life can change in the blink of an eye! So happy to hear him and Avril are dating”.
One person referred to them as “dotes of the highest order” and honestly, I couldn’t agree more.
So many other viewers took to Twitter to express their joy when they found out the pair have kept in contact and were still dating.

First Dates Ireland airs on RTÉ2 at 9.30pm on Thursdays. The show has seen significant changes since the start of the pandemic, with couples sitting on opposite ends of some quite long tables.
