A learner driver in Co. Kerry very optimistically tried to take the scenic pedestrian path down to Dunquin Pier on Wednesday and it went about as well as you might expect.
The winding path also known as the ‘Sheep Highway’ is only intended for pedestrians and leads down to the pier where people can catch the ferry over to the Blasket Islands.
It has no through signs and two concrete bollards at the top of the pathway didn’t appear to deter this as-yet unidentified driver, who managed to get completely stuck.
Blasket Island Ferries shared a photo of the tricky predicament on their Facebook page and wrote, ‘Well it’s that time of year again where the no through sign at the top of the pedestrian pathway down to Dunquin Pier gets ignored. This learner driver has managed to get themselves fairly stuck.
‘Good news that our Ferries weren’t running today, it would have been a catastrophe trying to bring people back from the island.’
They added that the car had been ‘abandoned at the top of Dunquin Pier as we imagine that the clutch is probably burnt out’.
This actually isn’t the first time a motorist had managed to wedge themselves into this laneway – Blasket Island Ferries also shared a very similar photo a few years back.
