They thought not qualifying would stop us. Then, they took away our hosting rights. But for all UEFA’s efforts, Ireland have managed to get involved in Euro 2020!
This summer’s delayed European Championships will be lacking without the atmosphere brought by the Irish fans but thanks to Bono and The Edge, we’ve got some input after all.
The U2 pair have teamed up with Dutch DJ Martin Garrix to create We Are The People, the OFFICIAL song for this summer’s tournament. In a statement, Garrix said “Creating the music for one of the biggest sports events in the world together with Bono and The Edge has been an incredible experience. I’m very proud of what we did together and excited to finally share it with the world!”
UEFA marketing director Guy-Laurent Epstein added: “The long wait is almost over, and we are delighted to officially unveil the official song for Euro 2020, ‘We Are The People’, which features some of the world’s most celebrated artists in Martin Garrix, Bono, and The Edge.”
Fair play to Bono as he even managed to get the word “Dublin” into the chorus. Plus, for some reason, Jason McAteer stars in the video, recreating his famous goal against Holland, which he famously scored on the same night U2 rocked Slane back in 2001.
Well, we don’t know about you but we can’t wait to have this little ditty in our heads throughout the summer. Check out We Are The People for yourself below…
