WATCH: Cork pianist’s rendition of Champions League theme is gaining a lot of attention

James Fenton

The 2020 Champions League final was due to take place on May 30 but instead, we will have to make do with this brilliant performance of its famous theme.

Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the Champions League has fallen by the wayside, like most other sports across the world. However, thanks to Cork musician Rachael O’Donovan, football fans can at least close their eyes and pretend they’re watching Ronaldo, Messi et al doing battle to get their hands on the famous trophy.

Rachael’s videos have been gaining a lot of traction recently, with covers of the likes of Dermot Kennedy and Nirvana being shared widely. Last night, she delighted sports fans by showcasing her rendition of the famous music from the continental competition.

Check out Rachael’s talents below…

Anyone else feeling weirdly emotional now? Rachael, from West Cork, told Lovin.ie “I started off doing a 30 Day Music Challenge to keep myself busy since the start of lockdown.

“The reaction has been unbelievable so far. DJ Tiësto sent me a message about my cover of his Adagio for Strings and shared it on his Facebook page.”

Brilliant stuff from Rachael and it’s not just Tiesto who loves her work, with Virgin Media Sport even sharing her Champions League piece on their own page. You can find more of Rachael’s stellar work here.

Let’s hope it’s not too long before we’re hearing the tune again in packed stadiums across Europe.
