Fermoy Musical Society

Fermoy Musical Society have shared their rendition of one very well-known Les Misérables song.

In existence since 1924, Fermoy Musical Society isn’t about to let isolation stop them from singing. Posting a video of some of their members covering a beloved Les Misérables song, they’re hoping to spread some positivity and good cheer this Easter weekend.

Speaking to Lovin, one member said:

“It’s our way of putting some positive vibes out there with our singing. Every day we stay at home is one day closer to seeing family and friends.”

“We decided to put the platform of our society’s Facebook page to good use by doing what we do best while helping to inspire people to approach this lockdown with renewed vigour. ”

And whether you’re a fan of musicals or not, you’re bound to be familiar with Les Misérables. Based on a classic novel by Victor Hugo – widely considered to be one of the greatest novels of the 19th century, the Broadway show of the same name resurged in popularity after an all-star film adaptation of the tale was released in 2012.

Featuring quite a few famous faces, the movie starred the likes of Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russel Crowe, Eddie Redmayne and Amanda Seyfried. Not forgetting Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter.

Taking on the mammoth task of covering One Day More, arguably one of the best-known Les Mis songs, Fermoy Musical Society posted their rendition to Facebook… and it’s every bit as good as the original.

Speaking of their song choice, Collete Daily of FMS said:

“We recorded one of the most iconic pieces of musical theatre, the very aptly named One Day More, from Les Misérables. The song embodies so many parallels with the battle we fight today against Covid-19. We are the mighty underdog, determined to hold steadfast against the immense power of the enemy. And we will indeed ‘nip it in the bud'”.

Watch the clip below.

One day more, indeed.
