Gavin James on the Late Late

Gavin James wowed fans with his impressive vocals on The Late Late Show last night.

Miriam O’Callaghan stepped up to the plate as the host of RTE’s The Late Late again last night – filling in for usual host Ryan Tubridy, who tested positive for Covid-19.

A number of well-known faces joined Miriam throughout the night including Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore, singer Gavin James and UK fitness coach Joe Wicks.

Bray native Laura spoke to Miriam via video call from her home over in London, telling her “it’s been the weirdest year”, she talked about how she and boyfriend Iain are coping with the situation.

“If you were back a year ago and said everything that has happened would happen, you just wouldn’t believe it. It’s been really difficult. I think we’re one of the few people that we’re actually enjoying the time being at home, it’s been lovely.

I feel the beginning of the year has been non-stop and sometimes you don’t deal with things because it’s easier not to, you’re on a roller-coaster so you kinda have to keep going.

What’s happened and sadly the circumstances it’s happened in has been horrible for a lot of people but for me personally, I’ve actually enjoyed being at home. It sounds kind of crazy but I needed the space just to be here with Iain… and have a chance to be present.”

Later in the show Miriam also talked to the crew that helped fly vital personal protective equipment back from Beijing, paying tribute to the “gargantuan effort by Aer Lingus staff to get the operation off the ground”.

Music came from Irish singer-songwriter Gavin James. An ambassador for ALONE, he performed a selection of songs in-studio and viewers were encouraged to donate to help raise much-needed funds for the charity.  The CEO of ALONE was also in studio to discuss the increase in calls to the service during the ongoing Covid-19 crisis in the country.

People were moved by Gavin’s vocals, commending him for his “uplifting performance at this unprecedented time.”
