The director behind The Social Network, Gone Girl and Se7en is finally back!
David Fincher is a genius.
Se7en, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac, The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl… his CV is mightly impressive.
Lately he’s been enjoying a productive collaboration with Netflix, producing and directing episodes for hit shows like House of Cards and Manhunter, but fans of Fincher’s movies have been waiting a long time for him to return.
Thankfully we don’t have too much longer to wait, as Netflix have released the first teaser trailer for Mank, the upcoming biography of Herman J. Mankiewicz, the screenwriter of Citizen Kane, and the problems that arose with Orson Welles during production and leading up to that legendary film’s release.
The script is written by Fincher’s own father and was originally to be his follow-up to 1997’s The Game, but production never got off the ground due to Fincher’s insistence to shoot the movie in black and white.
Over twenty years later, Gary Oldman will take on the title role, and will be supported by the likes of Charles Dance, Amanda Seyfried, and Lily Collins.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will be reuniting for the soundtrack, and all of this talent around is sure to get the Oscars’ attention.
Aaron Sorkin, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Social Network, spoke to MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast about the movie, saying “It’s so freaking good. It’s breathtaking even by David Fincher standards.” Yep, we’re now officially excited.
While the teaser below doesn’t explicitly say so, Mank is reportedly due to arrive on Netflix from Friday, December 4.
