WATCH: Normal People was the target for one of the best Golden Globes jokes

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, once again, knocked it out of the park last night.

The 78th Annual Golden Globes took place last night, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosting from opposite sides of the States.

The practically entirely online ceremony lead to many a technical issue – now they all know how our daily Zoom meetings can go – and also resulted in zero wins for the Irish contingent.

Still though, Fey and Poehler once again rocked it as the hosts, and if nothing else, Irish show Normal People was at the centre of one of their best one-liners.

Which isn’t to say that the co-hosts were left wanting in the comedy department, as here are some of our favourite jokes from their shared opening monologue:

  • “We’ll be celebrating all of the TV shows you binge-watched this year: The Office, old Columbos, very one-sided news programmes…”
  • “The Hollywood Foreign Press Assocation is made up of around 90, international, no-black journalists…”
  • “The Queen’s Gambit is… whatever James Corden was up to in The Prom, I guess.”
  • “French Exit is what I did after watching the first episode of Emily In Paris.”

But they really did nail what many felt was the primary appeal of the Irish show, with this zinger:

“Normal People is an emotional show about two young lovers in Ireland, and is best viewed in bed, with your hot laptop right on your crotch.”
