WATCH: The first trailer for Clarice, sequel to The Silence of the Lambs

Rory Cashin

The show is set one year after the events of that Oscar-winning thriller.

After winning five Oscars and being named one of the best movies ever made, The Silence of the Lambs definitely marked a high point for the Hannibal movie universe (the HMU?). The sequel Hannibal, which recast Julianne Moore as Clarice Starling, has its fans but certainly not as many as Lambs.

Red Dragon was… fine, if a bit too clean and average for a story about such a maniacal serial killer, and the less said about prequel Hannibal Rising, the better.

TV show Hannibal was fantastic, but unfortunately cancelled after just three seasons, with talk still happening five years later about the want for a return, but it does look like we’ll be delving back into the HMU very soon… although it looks like it’ll without Hannibal at all.

Clarice will focus on the FBI agent a year after the events of Silence of the Lambs, with relative unknown Rebecca Breeds taking on the title role. The series will to explore the untold personal story of Clarice Starling as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high-stakes political world of Washington, D.C.

Coming from the producer of Alias, Fringe, and the Star Trek reboots, it will be interesting to see the story of Clarice between the events of Lambs and Hannibal, and it will likely be a great replacement for those who have been disappointed that Mindhunter won’t be returning for a third season.

The show is set to debut in February 2021 on CBS, which is the home to shows such as MacGuyver, Magnum P.I., Bull, and FBI: Most Wanted, all of which were then shown on Sky and NOW TV in Ireland.
