WATCH: The new trailer for Free Guy, one of the last blockbusters still to come in 2020

If anything can put us in a good mood, it is Ryan Reynolds being funny and blowing stuff up.

Following the recent news that upcoming Bond movie No Time To Die has been pushed from its November 2020 release date to April 2021 (which resulted in one of the world’s biggest cinema chains to close its doors indefinitely), the future of blockbusters being released in cinemas this year is less and less bright.

While there are sure to be some good, low-key releases in the next few weeks and months, in terms of BIG movies still to come in 2020, at the moment it looks like all we had to look forward to were Pixar’s Soul (Nov 27), Death On The Nile (Dec 18), Dune (also Dec 18), Wonder Woman 1984 (Dec 26), and unless we’re mistaken, that was pretty much it.

Thankfully, we can now add Ryan Reynolds’ new action-comedy Free Guy into the mix, which has just launched a brand new trailer. Initially due for release in July, the movie was pushed back due to Covid-19, and now has a new, just-in-time-for Christmas release date.

From the producers of Deadpool, the director of Stranger Things, and the writer of The Avengers, it stars Reynolds as a character in a Grand Theft Auto-esque video game, who slowly starts to become aware that he is in a video game, and he tries to escape, all while falling in love with one the game’s players (Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer). So, yeah, basically Ready Player One meets Wreck-It Ralph.

Fingers crossed it does stick to this release date, because we could all do with a big screen laugh right about now.

Free Guy is due for release in Irish cinemas on Friday, December 11. Check out the latest trailer right here:
