Sky News presenter Adam Boulton caused quite a stir over the weekend after he tweeted ‘some of you Irish need to get over yourselves’ following an interview he conducted with Tánaiste Simon Coveney.
Among a series of ill-thought-out questions, Boulton asked Coveney if the “kerfuffle” was necessary in regards to recent prolonged negotiations to ensure Northern Ireland won’t be faced with a hard border after Brexit.
Naturally, Irish people largely took issue with Boulton’s line of questioning and his responses to subsequent criticism. The disdain has led to the term ‘You Irish’ trending on Twitter and the posts range from articulate, intelligent replies filling Boulton in on Irish history to just plain gas.
Here are some of our favourites.

Disgraceful, disrespectful tweet by supposed ‘respected journalist’ @adamboultonSKY. If you’re bored I suggest you read a book….perhaps one on the history of Ireland. @SkyNews and @SkyIreland need to have word with him about where a portion of his salary comes from. #youIrish https://t.co/QWW8bBt7bs

Scratch beneath the surface of British society and you will see that anti-Irish prejudice is still prevalent.
The past is still unfortunately the present in the eyes of many. Simply Horrible! #YouIrish pic.twitter.com/aK3mdjX5dP
