Making plans for the weekend? In these final few weeks leading up to Christmas, Dublin has no shortage of fun festive events taking place to get you into the spirit of things.

Covering everything from highly-acclaimed theatre to dazzling light shows, Winter in Dublin has a huge programme of events taking place this December and January, offering all kinds of festive fun for a pre-Christmas city break in the capital.

With that in mind, we’ve picked some of the must-do festive activities happening Dublin, to help you get into the festive spirit…

Christmas At Moore Street Market

Running on 17, 18, 22, 23 December

Ahead of Christmas, Dublin’s oldest market has undergone a festive makeover, creating the perfect day out for the season that’s in it – and a great opportunity to support small local businesses this year.

From festive décor to unique presents, Moore Street Market has everything you could possibly need for Christmas 2022. For last-minute gift shopping, the market has craft stalls selling the likes of stationary, cosmetics, Christmas decorations and jewellery, along with a whole host of tasty food vendors.

Wild Lights at Dublin Zoo

Running until 9 January

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a trip to Dublin Zoo’s Wild Lights!

The popular winter event returns this year with a whole host of stunning new lanterns, a festive day out that can be thoroughly enjoyed by families, couples and friends alike.

This year’s theme is The Magic of Life, shining a light on the natural world around us as guests follow along an enchanting trail, illuminated with captivating lanterns. Along the way, there’ll be vendors selling hot drinks and food and snacks, to help you keep toasty and warm as you stroll through the zoo’s impressive new lights display.

Christmas at the Storehouse 

Until 6 January, Guinness Storehouse

Every year, the Storehouse undergoes a festive transformation ahead of Christmas, creating the ultimate winter wonderland for anyone looking for a tasty pint and some grub in the city centre.

To create the perfect festive setting, the Storehouse has pulled out all the stops, filling the iconic D8 venue with some live pop-up entertainment, mulled Guinness and a whole host of tasty festive treats. As you catch up with pals in the panoramic Gravity Bar, you can admire the dazzling lights and festive artwork while enjoying some tasty grub and (of course!) plenty of pints of the black stuff.

The Long Christmas Dinner

10 – 31 December 2022, Abbey Theatre

Returning to the Peacock stage, the highly acclaimed family drama, The Long Christmas Dinner, is not to be missed this Christmas.

In this beloved family drama, we follow successive generations of the Bayard family at their Christmas dinner table, spanning a period of 90 years, inviting audiences to reflect on their own families and what Christmas means for each of us.

Nominated for Best Production, Best Director and Best Ensemble at the 2022 Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards, it promises to be an unforgettable performance.

The Jungle Book

Running until 22 January, Gaiety Theatre

As the saying goes, this is no ordinary Panto… it’s the Gaiety Panto, and this year the team are putting on a very festive edition of the classic adventure story, the Jungle Book. Join Mowgli as he swings and sings his way through the jungle, happening on some familiar characters filled with Panto monkey-business and hiss-sterical shenanigans. Whatever your age, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a panto!
