Best of the pub

Guinness has plenty in store to mark Paddy’s Day this year, announcing a stacked line-up of performers for their Best of the Pub event next week.

A virtual event organised in honour of our national holiday, as the name suggests, it also aims to celebrate the very best of Irish pub culture.

Encouraging people to continue looking forward to all the laughter and craic that’s yet to come, Guinness is inviting the public to enjoy the unique magic of the pub experience from their own homes.

Joining forces with Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative, a number of different pubs across the globe will turn green for the occasion – with the idea being to, quite literally, shine a light on your local.

The iconic Home of Guinness, the Guinness Storehouse, the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Baltimore, USA as well as Guinness HQ in countries like Kenya and Uganda will also go glas for the big day.

Culminating with The Best of the Pub event later that evening, it features a varied programme of Irish entertainment – headlined by none other than our favourite Mullingar man, Niall Horan who will take to the stage for an unplugged and intimate set from his own local over in London.

Dublin-based chef Marcus O’Laoire will also be on hand to show viewers how to craft the ultimate cheese toastie, while Nigerian-Irish poet and spoken word artist FeliSpeaks will perform a specially commissioned piece.

Speaking ahead of the event, Guinness Global Brand Director Grainne Wafer commented:

“There’s something special about the pub on St. Patrick’s Day, and this year Guinness is excited to celebrate all that is wonderful about the pub, even if they are closed for now.”

Streaming live around the world over on YouTube, the event kicks off just before 6pm (5:59pm to be exact) on March 17th.
