Irish Made: These Handmade Sparkly Headbands Are Everything

Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

Do you hear the church bells ringing? It’s wedding season!

One thing I often struggle with when it comes to weddings is finding the right thing to wear, especially on my head. I’m still a bit too young for the massive hats and I find it near impossible to find a headpiece that I like.

I’m heading to a wedding in July and even now I’m finding outfit prep a little stressful. Thankfully, I now have a dress but I’m lacking in every other department.

I took to Instagram to get some inspiration and during a nightly scroll, I found what I was looking for.

Aisling Kavanagh is an Irish fashion student based in Dublin who creates the most aesthetically GORJ hairbands I’ve seen.

Each piece is hand sewn and embellished over a three- to four-week period, so a lot of time and effort is put into making them special.

The bands are made to order and come in a range of different colours including gold, silver, burgundy, black, lilac, cream and white.

They’re ideal for formal events as well as jazzing up a casual one.

If you’re like me and you’re not entirely comfortable wearing a large headpiece, this still puts on a show of its own.

Headbands come in at €175 per band which is pretty pricey, but considering the amount of effort that goes into them and the fact they are bespoke and one of a kind, it levels it out. Plus, you’ll be supporting a young Irish designer.
