This particular award is for great value cooking and great quality.

Today, ahead of their awards on the 27th March, the Michelin Guide revealed the restaurants in Ireland and Britain that had been given a Bib Gourmand award. Of the 20 restaurants newly awarded, three of them are Irish restaurants, two of which are based in Belfast, and one that’s based in Cork.

Saint Francis Provisions

Location: Kinsale, Cork

Based on Short Quay in Kinsale, Saint Francis Provisions is an unpretentious spot ideal for relaxing and enjoying good food. They have just 13 seats available inside, and pride themselves on their natural wine selection.

Of this Kinsale restaurant, Michelin praised the, “concise, daily changing menu” that focuses on Mediterranean small plates created using local ingredients.

Next time you’re spending a while in this picturesque part of Ireland, a trip to Saint Francis Provisions is definitely in order.

Waterman

Location: Belfast

Waterman restaurant, based on Hill Street in Belfast, features on the Michelin Guide for the first time with this 2023 honouring. The sister restaurant of James Street, Waterman describes itself as a “no-frills” kind of spot, and they are praised on the Michelin website for their “excellent prices” despite their central location.

What secured their place on the list? Michelin said this of their food:

“The modern, unfussy dishes are influenced by Europe, with Italy holding sway – this is the kind of food you could happily eat every day.”

Can’t get much better praise than that really.

EDO Restaurant

Location: Belfast

The second Belfast location to achieve a Bib Gourmand award is EDO, which serves modern European small plates that are ideal for sharing.

EDO, which simply means “I eat” in Latin, gets serious praise for their food that is often cooked over “apple or pear wood in the Bertha oven“. The atmosphere of the restaurant also gets brownie points; the Michelin point of view is that “rustic-meets-faux-industrial styling” at EDO, and the long kitchen counter means diners can get involved in the action.

We’ll have to wait until the awards ceremony on the 27th March for more Michelin Guide news, including the complete list of new Bib Gourmand, Green Star, and Michelin star winners.
