James Fenton

Valentine’s Day is on the horizon and if you’re not already planning to surprise your other half with a box of ketchup chocolates then you soon will be.

Yes, you did read that correctly. Renowned ketchup makers Heinz have teamed up with London-based department store Fortnum & Mason to create Heinz Tomato Ketchup Truffles, which are being released just in time for Valentine’s Day.

According to the creators, the ketchup truffles combine ‘the unmistakable taste of the deliciously rich and thick Heinz Tomato Ketchup you know and love with luxurious, velvety chocolate, in a unique pairing that will make the perfect Valentine’s gift for the ketchup lover in your life.’

Made entirely by hand, the chocolates are beautifully presented in a heart-shaped box and are sure to bring a smile to the face of your loved one this February 14…

Speaking about the unorthodox collaboration, Emily O’Kane, marketing manager for Heinz Tomato Ketchup in Ireland said: “Ketchup and chocolate are two of the nation’s most loved foods, and we felt that it was only right that on the international day of love we combine these two ingredients, resulting in mouth-watering truffles that are set to delight ketchup and chocolate lovers across the country.”

Sophie Young, confectionary buyer at Fortnum & Mason added that the new product “showcases Fortnum’s ability to create unique and exciting pairings that will capture the attention of ketchup enthusiasts and satisfy even the most sophisticated of palates.”

Your taste buds are probably already tingling and you can have a look at the creation process in the below video:

Mesmerising. The Heinz Tomato Ketchup Truffles are available online at a cost of €24 and are only available until February 14, while stocks last. So if you reckon this is exactly what your ketchup-loving significant other is looking for, you can get your hands on them here.
