McDonald’s embraces Veganuary by launching their new McPlant burger

Katy Thornton

This is bound to make Veganuary a little bit easier.

For all those participating in Veganuary, you chose the right time to make the switch to plant-based. McDonald’s has just rolled out their very first plant based burger, and it’s available in all restaurants across Ireland from today, 5th January! The McPlant contains a burger patty co-developed by Beyond Meat and it has been three years in the making!

But don’t feel you have to be taking part in Veganuary, or a full-time veggie to enjoy this new burger. McDonald’s are confident even the most passionate meat eaters will love the McPlant.

CMO of McDonald’s UK and Ireland, Michelle Graham-Clare says:

We’re so pleased that our McPlant is now officially ‘everywhere’ and available for more of our customers to taste and enjoy. We saw a remarkable response to the trial period back in October and now McPlant is on the high-street, in retail parks and service stations all over Ireland so all of our customers will be able to try it. We’re proud to once again be offering our customers more great-tasting options from McDonald’s. It’s our same iconic taste – but plant-based.”

So what’s in the McPlant? It contains a vegan sesame bun, mustard, ketchup, vegan sauce, onion, pickle, lettuce, tomato, vegan cheese, and of course, the vegan patty. McDonald’s cooks these burgers away from their meat burgers, so veggies and vegans don’t have to worry about any cross contamination.

Best of all, it’s not just sticking around for January. This bad boy is here to stay. So to all our vegan and veggies friends out there, you now have even more options at McDonald’s.
