This will be the seventh McHughs café in Ireland, and the sixth in Mayo.

After much teasing on Instagram, McHughs launch their sixth Mayo café on 29th March in Ballyhanius. As with the other McHughs cafés the Ballyhanius spot will serve their classic tea, coffee, signature sambos, and scones.

According to their website, customers need only ever pay for one pot of tea, continuing on a tradition that’s stuck around since the first McHughs stall was set up.

The tradition of serving tea has been in the McHughs family since 1952. Back then Peter McHugh set up a travelling canteen to cater for the livestock marts and fairs in his area; soon he was travelling all around Mayo and Galway. The business was then passed down to the McHugh sons, with Peter McHugh Junior stepping in for the marts, and in 2012 Rory McHugh opening the first McHughs café in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo.

Now you can find McHughs cafés in Cong, Westport, Claremorris, Ballinrobe, Castlebar and Headford, as well as their new Ballyhanius spot, which opens at 9am on Tuesday 29th March.

We hope to see even more McHughs cafés popping up soon all over Ireland.
