Burger King has introduced the plant-based Rebel Whopper in Ireland.

The newest addition to the Burger King menu is now available to purchase in Ireland after a Europe-wide launch on Tuesday.

The meat-free Whopper alternative was launched in 25 countries – including Ireland – and in over 2,500 restaurants, making it one of the biggest launches in Burger King history.

The Rebel Whopper consists of a flame-grilled, plant-based patty, which was conceived as part of a partnership with The Vegetarian Butcher, topped off with freshly-sliced tomatoes, fresh lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles and sliced white onions on a sesame seed bun.

David Shear, President of Burger King EMEA, commented: “We are confident that this is the sandwich everyone has been waiting for and provides the ultimate plant-based patty alternative with the iconic Whopper build. I’m excited to let the Rebel Whopper do the talking and see whether our guests can tell the difference!”

The new vegetarian option for Burger King customers has been in development for some time and the decision was made to roll it out across 25 European countries simultaneously following successful launches in both the United States and Sweden.

Jaap Korteweg, Founder of The Vegetarian Butcher said: “Working with Burger King on the Rebel Whopper has been amazing, and we can’t wait for all Burger King guests to enjoy it.”
