Tall Boy Toasties bring their ’empire’ to a ‘definitive close’

It’s a bittersweet ending to the Greystones’ toastie trailer.

After a year in business, Tall Boy Toasties is calling it quits on their sambo business. Owner Des and his team at TBT became well known for their breakfast baps and lunchtime grilled cheeses in the Greystones’ area. They launched in March 2021, manned by Des (standing at an impressive 6ft11) to bring the very best toasties to the market and they were much loved by locals. Sadly Tall Boy Toasties took to Instagram today to announce the close of their empire.

In a candid Instagram caption, Des explained the reason behind the closure:

It’s with very bitter / sweet emotions we draw a definitive close to the TBT ‘Empire’. Des has decided to pursue other opportunities so the hatch will not reopen this Spring / Summer as planned. It was a wild ride folks- with equal parts ‘serious slog’ & ‘serious fun’…. But the highlight for sure was all the regular faces who came down to fill their daily/ weekly Toastie needs and keep the big man company.”

It only takes a swift look at the comments to show how much Tall Boy Toasties will be missed. One Instagram commenter expressed what an impact they had amid last year’s lockdown; another simply said that the TBT toasties were “the best sandwiches I’ve ever had“. We wish Des and the whole TBT crew the very best with their future endeavours, and hope one of them includes more toasties on the horizon.
