These spots are competing for title of Best Carvery in Ireland

It’s a heavily debated topic in some circles around the country, and for years, groups of friends have fallen out over the simple question; where is the best carvery in the country?

Previously known as the Great Carvery of the Year competition, Ireland’s Favourite Roast is one of the most hotly-contested culinary competitions in Ireland.

The competition, run in association with Knorr, will see venues scored on the quality and taste of their carvery offering as well as value for money.

And the nominees for this year’s competition are in, with 15 establishments vying for the title of Ireland’s Favourite Roast?

  • The Elm Tree, Glounthune, Cork
  • Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel & Spa, Adare, Limerick
  • Mulcahy’s Bar & Restaurant, Clonmel, Tipperary
  • The Barn, Glanmire, Cork


  • Silken Thomas, Kildare
  • Eden House Gastrobar, Rathfarnham, Dublin
  • The Bell Bar & Restaurant, Blanchardstown, Dublin
  • Creggan Court Hotel, Athlone, Westmeath
  • The Balreask Bar & Restaurant, Navan, Meath

Connaught/ Ulster

  • Athlone Springs Hotel, Athlone, Roscommon
  • Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill, Galway
  • Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone, Roscommon
  • The Trappers Inn, Castlegar, Galway
  • Hester’s Golden Eagle Bar & Restaurant, Castlerea, Roscommon

“We were delighted to see the level of entry to this year’s competition from right across the country,” Jim Reeves, Customer Director at Unilever Food Solutions said.

“And, especially pleased to see a large number of first-time entrants. The commitment and pride that goes into preparing, cooking and serving excellent food to customers every day should be applauded and this competition goes some way to acknowledge those efforts.”
