The expansion of Wetherspoons in Ireland is set to continue in 2020.

On Wednesday, Wetherspoons confirmed a €30 million investment into the Irish expansion of the brand.

300 jobs are set to be created by the opening of four new pubs (and a hotel) during summer 2020 and beyond.

The next Wetherspoons to open in Ireland will be in late May/early June, 2020 at the former HQ Bar and Restaurant in Hanover Quay, Dublin.

June will also see the opening of a Wetherspoons on Camden Street, which will incorporate an 89-bedroom hotel.

Development will begin on Wetherspoons in Waterford in January 2020 and an opening date is expected in mid-summer.

The company has already purchased a former nightclub on Galway’s Eglington Street, with the aim of developing a pub with 4,000 square feet of customer area and a 1,900-square-feet first-floor garden.

Wetherspoon’s founder and chairman, Tim Martin, said: “Our seven pubs in the Republic of Ireland continue to go from strength to strength.

“We are delighted that we will be opening an additional four pubs, three of which are set to open by the summer.

“We are confident that the new pubs and hotel will prove popular with a wide variety of people.

“Hopefully, our investment will act as a catalyst for other businesses to invest in the respective areas where we are opening.”

The company currently operates seven pubs in Blackrock, Blanchardstown, Carlow, Cork, Dublin City, Dún Laoghaire and Swords.
