Usually published/launched in October, the 2021 Michelin Guide won’t be available until January of next year so as to allow time for the hospitality industry to ‘get back on its feet’.

One of the most highly anticipated events for foodies – particularly nervous restaurateurs, all eager to see if they’ve made the cut – Michelin has confirmed that the 2021 ceremony will have the same weight and meaning it always has. Deciding to move the publication/launch from October to January of next year, organisers have said that this will afford time for the industry to recover while also allowing for a ‘full and comprehensive guide’ to be prepared for readers.

Aiming to highlight the ‘resilience, quality and potential of the industry’, all new Michelin Stars will be unveiled at an event at the Dorchester Hotel in London at the start of 2021.

Speaking of the decision to slightly delay the ceremony, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides Gwendal Poullennec commented:

‘Moving the event to January and launching a digital-only guide gives us the time we need to be fair to restaurateurs and to ensure the consistent, expert advice our customers demand.’

Saying that he applauds chefs and owners for the ‘passion, ingenuity and entrepreneurship’ they have shown this year, Poullennec later added that he hopes seeing inspectors enjoying meals out will encourage others to follow suit.

‘Our inspectors have been out and about for some weeks now, eating twice a day in restaurants and pubs. They all love being back out there and have been busy sharing their joy and posting about their experiences on our social media platforms.

We hope this has enticed many customers back into eating out and supporting their local restaurants and the restaurant industry at large.’

Two Dublin restaurants were awarded stars in the 2020 Michelin Guide (The Greenhouse on Dawson Street and Variety Jones on Thomas Street), while other Irish newcomers to be awarded a star include Aimsir in Celbridge, Bastion in Kinsale and The Oak Room in Adare Manor, County Limerick.

Any predictions as to which Irish restaurants could feature on the 2021 Michelin Guide?
