A new toasty truck has opened in Cork City just in time for the weekend

James Fenton

Attention toasty lovers of Cork because there’s a new spot to sample the melty goodness of your favourite snack.

The aptly-named Toast, a one-of-a-kind food trailer, has taken pride of place on The Olde Faery Trail in the city’s Ballinlough Park. Operated by local actor and artist Sebastian Thommen, Toast will serve scrumptious gourmet grilled cheese toasties and coffees from 11am until 4pm on Thursdays until Saturdays.

A press release says that ‘Toast prides itself on sourcing quality fresh local ingredients and the menu will change weekly to make use of the best seasonal produce.

‘Their opening gourmet sourdough toastie offering includes The Tom Durcan – Tom Durcan Spiced Beef with Toons Bridge Dairy Smoked Scamorza, Italian Mozzarella and finely chopped Spring Onion, The Three Cheese – Smoked Toons Bridge Dairy Scamorza, Macroom Buffalo Mozzarella, Gubbeen Farmhouse Cheese and finely chopped Onion, The Ham & Cheese – Rosemary Ham, Smoked Toons Bridge Dairy Scamorza, Macroom Buffalo Mozzarella and finely chopped Spring Onion, and The Feta – Ardsallagh Goats Feta, Sun-dried Tomato, and Garlic Pesto. These fillings are lovingly sandwiched in between slices of artisan sourdough from local baker Declan Ryan’s Arbutus Bread, with each toastie served with a choice of Toast’s own Roasted Garlic Mayo or Ballymaloe Relish.’

As well as having a home three days a week in Ballinlough Park, once lockdown restrictions are lifted Toast will also be available for private hire for catering gigs and events, with the flexibility to also operate as a mobile bar for Pimms/Champagne receptions at weddings.

One to check out this weekend if you’re in the Rebel City!
