Cobh welcomes new food yard with burgers, chicken, speciality coffee and more

Fiona Frawley

The Boatyard is the newest addition to Cobh’s foodie scene, a Ballamory-esque selection of colourful shipping containers packed with culinary delights.

The new food market is ideally located by Cobh Ferry looking out at the sea, with picnic benches and palette seating for chowing down on chicken while watching monster-sized cruise liners and navy ships glide by.

Boatyard owner Rob created a palpable buzz and anticipation ahead of its opening by documenting the food market’s journey on TikTok and Instagram, sharing videos of the transformation from disused yard to eclectic foodie haven.

On offer you’ll find an array of cuisines from burgers to smoothie bowls, along with speciality coffee and even a car wash facility.

Foodie highlights include Hansum, the rotisserie chicken whizzes who you may know from Cork’s Marina Market, Hook’d Fish and Chips (because fish and chips by the sea are essential) and Mama Bear’s, the dessert container that has you covered by way of waffles, crepes and even doggy smoothie bowls (!) for furry friends.

Definitely worth making the trip to during a sunny day, and the ideal place to head to with pals or on a date when you can’t agree on a cuisine. Everyone’s catered for!
