Six Healthy Dinner Spots In Galway Where You’ll Always Have A Great Meal

Kiara Keane

Galway has plenty of fantastic restaurants that offer healthy, delicious meal options without having to opt for a sad side salad and a water. Here’s a few of my top picks…

Ard Bia, Spanish Arch

This popular riverside spot inside a stunning stone building near the Spanish Arch has a shabby chic vibe with upcycled furniture and decorated with artwork by local artists.

Vegetarians are spoiled for choice here and the menu, which takes inspiration from the Mediterranean to the Middle East, also focuses on locally sourced produce like Cork monkfish and Galway goat’s milk yoghurt.

Brasserie On The Corner, Eglinton Street

It’s one of the city’s most popular restaurants and will never let you down with their locally sourced menu that’s proudly ‘farm to fork’.

They have delicious seafood as well as a daily vegetarian special – just don’t leave without trying their vegetarian board with spiced falafel, crispy halloumi and chargrilled vegetables.

Kai, Sea Road

This Westend spot focuses heavily on organic, wild and locally sourced produce, serving up simple, healthy and delicious meals in a welcoming, homey atmosphere.

The menu changes often, but regularly features dishes like Roscommon lamb chops with beetroot picada and green tahini, as well as plenty of seafood and vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Aniar, Lower Dominick Street

Michelin-starred Aniar is perfect for splashing out on a special occasion. With a creative farm-to-plate menu that changes daily, expect culinary delights that focus on wild, locally foraged ingredients served in bright, homey surroundings.

Dela, Lower Dominick Street

The guys behind this foodie haven (local couple Joe and Margaret Bohan) grow as much of their own produce as possible on their Moycullen farm and are into craft beer brewing, too.

Their sustainable, nutritious menu is all totally delicious and features plenty of seafood as well as vegetarian dishes like roast vegetable cannelloni with kale cream, and mushroom & cashew paté.

56 Central, Shop Street

This restaurant, which also has a lovely Buddha Zen roof garden, is by the same folks that brought you the fab 37 West Café. It’s got a ‘healthy corner’ on the menu with chicken or falafel salad options, lighter bites including sweet potato fries and flatbread pizzas and a veggie sweet potato and polenta burger.

Lime, Spanish Arch

Lime serves up seriously tasty and healthy Asian dishes using the freshest ingredients right by the Spanish Arch and they’ve got a great vegetarian and vegan menu as well. Make sure you try the Nasi Goreng next time you’re here, it’s a real must.
