One of Cork’s oldest pubs is looking for a new proprietor

Fiona Frawley

Ballyvolane’s popular Fox & Hounds pub is up for rent.

The well-known North Cork pub has been closed since the pandemic, but know the owner is looking for someone to give it a new lease of life.

The Fox & Hounds is one of the oldest landmark pubs in Cork, located just 3km from the city centre in an area that has expanded considerably and become largely suburbanised in the last few years. In 2017, it went up for sale with a guide price of €2.5 million through agents Seamus Costello and Frank Ryan of Cushman & Wakefield. Before that, it sold publicly in 2004 for €4 million, featuring as one of the biggest Cork suburban bar sales of the period. The bar is now available to lease via estate agents Behan Irwin and Gosling.

Inside, the bar consists of separate bar and lounge areas, with a central bar servicing both. There’s also a fully enclosed beer garden to the rear, as well as a large parking area. The bar is fully fitted and ready to trade, with a full 7 day publicans licence, according to the listing. The listing also notes that the pub is a popular and well-known venue with a successful trading history.

The listing describes the Fox and Hounds as situated in a busy neighbourhood centre with adjoining occupiers including Ladbrokes, Apache Pizza, Orchid Palace Chinese Restaurant & Carry-out Off Licence. Inside, the pub looks relatively ready to be reopened for business. The 4475 sq. ft. property is available immediately.

Anyone interested in running the Fox & Hounds is encouraged to get in touch with a proposal – more information is available via daft.ie.
