The café chain say they had “little choice” in the final decision.

Shoe Lane have taken to Instagram to announce the closure of their Greystones branch, citing rising costs and staffing issues as their reasons for closing.

An emotional post from the team reads:

We regret to announce the permanent closure of our Greystones location. Rising costs, persistent staffing difficulties, excessive rates + a number of other factors have lead to this unavoidable outcome. It was not a decision we made lightly and we had little to no choice in it, regretfully.

The Shoe Lane team thanked the café regulars and staff members, many of whom will continue working with the company at the Dun Laoghaire branch. They also thanked the other local businesses in Greystones, who they say “welcomed us with open arms”. Finally, they appealed to people to support local, small and Irish this Christmas.

Shoe Lane’s Dun Laoghaire and Tara Street branches will remain open. A visit to either café is definitely in order this weekend.

The Greystones café is the latest in a series of closures all over the country, as the energy and cost of living crises continue to impact businesses.
