The cold winter weather is well and truly setting in, we can definitely feel it.
And it means it the perfect season for hot drinks, especially any boozy ones.
If you’re tired of the typical mulled wine and hot whiskeys, you may be a fan of this growing drink trend.
What is it?
It’s red wine hot chocolate.
And it’s exactly what you think it is, but it’s heaven in a mug.
It was popular last winter and is definitely something you should consider making yourself at home this year.
Not only will it warm you up, but you’ll get the best of both worlds with red wine and chocolate combined into one.
We can think of nothing better.
We’re keeping an eye out to see if anywhere makes them, but for the meantime the recipe is ‘easy peasy lemon squeezy’ and can be made at the comfort of your own home.
There’s many different ways to make it, but the easiest is the original that was posted on immaeatthat.com and is as follows:
1. Add 1/2 cup of milk to a saucepan
2. Add 3 teaspoons of cocoa powder and bring to a boil
3. Add 1 cup of red wine and simmer until thick and creamy
And voila!
You have yourself boozy red wine hot chocolate.
There has been many different adjustments to the recipe, so do play around with it.
Some like to add in some cream and sugar and top with marshmallows, or even an orange peel.
