This Island in Mayo Is the Ideal Place For A Getaway With Friends

Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

I lay in a hammock sipping a beer, watching the sun set and all I could think was “I can’t believe I’m in Ireland”.

About a week ago, I was fortunate enough to be invited by Rockshore to stay on an incredible private island in Co. Mayo. Myself and eleven other content creators spent 24 hours in Collanmore and it was a trip like no other.

Rockshore were kind enough to let us get a sneak preview at the Island they are now promoting in a competition on their page.

The deets:

Collanmore is one of the 365 islands on the Westcoast of Mayo, just outside of Westport.

The island is accessed by boat and guests are the only people who will stay there. The lodge can accommodate up to 22 people in total, so it’s a deadly spot for hens, stags or a trip away with a group of friends.

The lodge has a fully equipped kitchen and a lounge area, which has stunning views of the bay and beyond. The rooms have super comfy and spacious bunk beds and some have an en suite. There’s four rooms and twelve beds in total. There’s free Wi-Fi and there’s even a bar inside.

To top it all off, there’s a 9 person hot tub, sauna and steam shower.

Eh hello? Dream.

Outside, there’s hammocks, an outdoor bar and a BBQ, ideal for a summer shindig.

During the day you can go for walks all around the island (it’s gorge) and even go for a dip in the sea via your own private beach.

The lodge can be booked as an entire house or by room with catered or self-catered options.

What did you get up to?

There’s so many activities available on the island such as kayaking, raft building and island bush craft.

We went on a boat trip around the island the first day and it was amazing. We were brought to another island close-by with a lighthouse on it.

The ideal spot for a cheeky Instagram to make your mates jel.

The owner of the island, Ciarán, also gave us a little tour as we zoomed around, telling us stories of the islands and the people that live on them.

We were even lucky enough to do some seal spotting.

They were totes adorbs.

It’s a super chill place. You don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to and you’ll still have a ball.

In the evening, catching the sunset is a must.

I’ve literally never seen anything so magical in my life.

The sky was burning orange and the light was hitting the water and islands all across the horizon.

Amazing.

Collanmore Island is a trip you’ll remember forever.

Drinking Rockshore, eating burgers from the BBQ and looking out at the sea is the epitome of happiness for me.

I don’t think I stopped smiling from the moment I stepped onto the boat and sailed across to the island.

It’s a stunning place that will make you realise why Ireland really is the most beautiful country in the world.

I’ve been dreaming of going back ever since, I just need to find an excuse.
