This lovely little tea room is the perfect way to start your day in Cork City

James Fenton

Like most other cities, Cork is that bit quieter at the moment than what people are used to but it’s still a great choice for a staycation, as I found out myself last week.

With all there is to see and do in Cork City and the county as a whole, you’ll need a good hearty breakfast to set you on your way. We weren’t staying too far from MacCurtain Street on the northside of the city centre and Tara’s Tea Room was recommended to us on our first day. Off we went in search of a decent spread, a cup of tea and, given that it’s 2020, a safe and socially-distanced environment.

Upon entering, it was clear that the latter box was ticked, with tables spread out, hand sanitizer at your seat and staff wearing visors and face coverings. The walls were adorned with little tea-related trinkets and it was clear to see that those at Tara’s Tea Room certainly had a passion for tea.

It wasn’t just tea we were looking for though and the breakfast menu offered plenty of options, whatever your tastes. A full or even a medium breakfast would certainly fill you up until lunch but if you wanted something smaller, the scrambled eggs and toast with an option to add sausage or bacon would do as well.

Pancake lovers are also catered for, with some maple syrup on hand to accompany your favourite dish. For those looking for a smaller bite, scones, croissants, granola and muesli are also available.

Sadly, we didn’t manage to get back to Tara’s Tea Room for lunch during our stay but you can have a look at what’s on offer in the menu below…

Given the tea theme, it would be remiss of Tara’s Tea Room not to provide some delicious-looking cakes to go with your cuppa and they certainly have plenty of those…

Great food in a great atmosphere with helpful staff catering to your every need. The perfect way to kick off your stay in Cork.
