‘This Was It’ – popular Ennistymon cafe closes due to rising costs

Fiona Frawley

This Is It are the latest in a string of closures across the country.

Those who’ve been lucky enough to spend time in West Clare may have popped into This Is It in the picturesque town of Ennistymon for a coffee or a sambo.

Opened in August 2020, This Is It quickly established themselves as a go-to spot for tourists, finding their way onto countless lists of Top Places to Eat while also winning over the locals with their friendly chat and top quality ingredients.

Along with the likes of Pot Duggans and the Cheese Press, This Is It solidified Ennistymon’s status as a foodie hotspot, and they’ve now sadly announced their closure.

In a post on Instagram, Ger of This Is It spoke about how the cafe couldn’t keep up with current costs:

Sad news this morning, folks, but this will be our last weekend here in Ennistymon. We’ve tried literally everything we can think of to stay going but simply can’t keep up with things the way they are.

Ger also thanked the staff and customers of This Is It, writing:

MASSSIVE thank you due to everyone who had their hand in helping us out, especially all our lovely staff past and present.

Also we’d be nowhere without our beautiful customers who made these last few years so memorable.. we’ll miss you all!

This Is It will close for the final time at 4pm this Sunday, 17th – this is your sign to pop in for one last flattie if you’re in the area.
