‘We were left with no other option’ – Box Burger in Bray to close after 7 years

The latest casualty of the energy crisis is beloved burger joint, Box Burger in Bray.

This will be a tough one for locals of the seaside town to swallow. For almost a decade, Box Burger and sister restaurant Platform have been a go-to for date nights, family celebrations, hungover feasts and pretty much any other food-centred get together you can think of. They’ve loyally served the people of Bray with juicy patties and inventive cocktails (the Drumstick has always been a fave), and now they’ve sadly announced their closure.

In a post on Instagram, the Box Burger team wrote:

The last seven years have been an absolute blast but unfortunately the time has come for Box Burger to say goodbye. This was an extremely tough decision and not something we ever wanted to happen.

Everyone is aware of the rising costs in the industry and Box Burger was no stranger to this with a high energy consuming kitchen and so many other economic variables at this time we were left with no other option.

The team added that they didn’t want to focus on the negativity of the current situation, but instead to focus on the businesses successes over the years such as launching their 100% vegan menu and finding ways to adapt during the pandemic.

We are extremely proud of everything our restaurant and team achieved over the years. We were so lucky to be involved in so many amazing events like Box on Tour, where our Box Burger container headed out on the road to a host of festivals including Big Grill Festival, Electric Picnic, Groove Festival, Eatyard residency and more. We launched Vox Burger, our 100% Vegan Menu.

And during Covid lockdowns we did everything possible and adapted our business model to introduce Box Burger DIY kits and takeaway so that customers could enjoy a taste of their favourite Box Burger at home.

Box Burger will close officially on Sunday, 6th November. If you’d like to visit them one last time, you can book a table HERE.
