Wicklow brewery launches Brennans flavoured ‘sliced can’ beer

Brennans sliced can beer

Part of Wicklow Wolf’s “crossbreeds” series.

The Irish affinity for Brennans sliced pan simply can’t be understated. A thickly buttered heel sits proudly alongside pretty much any meal in an Irish household – stew, coddle, summer salad (obviously, we can’t forego carbs completely), and we learn our squeeze-test skills for the supermarket from a young age to ensure we come home with the perfect loaf.

Brennans has the kind of taste most of us could point out of a lineup, blindfolded, and is a source of comfort for many. So it makes sense as a potential collab partner – we just didn’t expect it to be with a brewery.

Craft brewers Wicklow Wolf have just unveiled their latest creation, to the delight of beer lovers everywhere. The Sliced Can is brewed using surplus Brennans Family Pan as a substitute for malted barley, in an effort to reduce food waste. The vegan, low-calorie brew is described by Wicklow Wolf as “light and refreshing with fruity notes and a malty backbone”.

Besides epitomising all things Irish, the Sliced Can takes positive strides in the direction of sustainability – the beer was brewed and packaged using electricity generated by the brewery’s 120kw of rooftop solar panels. You can read more about the company’s sustainability efforts here.

The Sliced Can will be available nationwide in all good independent off licences, and via the Wicklow Wolf website.

Will you be trying a can?
