Galway looks stunning as it begins glowing under Christmas lights

Darragh Murphy

The festive season is officially underway in Galway after the Christmas lights were switched on in the City of Tribes.

The lights were flicked on on Friday evening, marking the launch of the Galway Continental Christmas Market.

The annual Continental Christmas Market saw over 650,000 visitors attend last year and it is expected to be even more popular this time around.

This year’s Christmas Market is the 10th year of the market in Galway.

Visitors can look forward to a variety of attractions in Eyre Square; including entertainment, shopping and food options.

The 32-metre high Big Wheel will return to the square, while other amusement rides include the traditional Carousel as well as the Après Ski Bar and Santa’s Express Train.

There will also be live music performers, puppet shows, storytelling, school choirs and carol singing surrounding Santa’s Grotto, which is being run by local charities.

Some stunning images of Eyre Square illuminated by the Christmas lights were shared on social media and it looks as beautiful as it does every year.
