The Flaming Lips have been confirmed for the GIAF 2020 line-up.

A fan favourite on the Galway events calendar, The Flaming Lips have been named amongst the performers for the Galway International Arts Festival 2020.

Six-time Grammy Award-nominees, they’ll return to Galway in the summer of next year. No strangers to the City of Tribes, their 2018 performance is one of the most talked-about in GIAF history.

Hot on the heels of the release of their 19th studio album this past July, Galway will come alive to the band’s infectious pop sounds on Saturday 18th July.

According to the GIAF website, concertgoers should expect all their characteristic razzmatazz along with “dazzling colours, lights and other accoutrements”.

Sounds like quite the gig.

Tickets cost just under €50 and go on sale this Friday at 9am.

Other acts already named to perform include Jon Hopkins who will debut his “startlingly unique blend of electronic, ambient and classical music” at the festival on Saturday 25th July. Part of the singer’s Polarity tour, he’ll also play a sold-out gig at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin.

American rock band Pixie was revealed as the first headline act of the festival. Acting as inspiration to other iconic bands like Nirvana and Radiohead, they’ll play their signature sound of punk aggression and pop melodies at the Big Top on Friday 17th July.

The 2020 edition marks the 43rd anniversary of the festival and will run from July 13th to 26th.
