The Secret Garden: Galway’s best kept secret

Sarah Finnan

Arguably the coolest café in Galway city, the Secret Garden is every tea drinker’s dream.

Tucked away in Galway’s West End, The Secret Garden is removed from the hustle and bustle of shop street making it the ultimate chill-out zone. Frequented mainly by locals and students, it’s certainly one of Gailimh’s hidden gems.

The interior is intimate without being suffocating, charming without pretension; bohemian chic at its finest. Giant squishy cushions scatter the floor and fairy lights hang from the ceiling. Picture that for ambience.

Probably the most comfortable place to relax and unwind with a cuppa after a hard day’s work. The lack of Wi-Fi encourages good old-fashioned human interaction, so it’s great for long-overdue catch-ups.

Offering more than 100 types of different teas from around the world, there’s almost too much to choose from. Try the shisha (hookah) if you’re feeling adventurous (all flavours tobacco and nicotine-free of course) or play it safe and sample some of the many tasty treats on display (the carrot cake is a solid choice if you’re asking).

Stop by in the evening time for live acoustic music, poetry slams and other such fun.

Tea and chats for two?!
