You can find one of the world’s coolest food trucks in Galway

Sarah Finnan

It’s no secret that Galway is one of my favourite places in the world.

For many reasons – the people, the craic, the pubs. The list goes on. Perhaps the biggest reason though? The food obviously.

And as it happens, the travel-wise folk over at Lonely Planet are in agreement with me as according to them, one of the world’s coolest food trucks can be found out west.

Misunderstood Heron along the shores of Killary Fjord in Connemara is definitely very cool. Found in a car park serving the 2 km Killary Coastal Park walking trail, it was founded by husband and wife duo Reinaldo Seico and Kim Young.

Cooking up food inspired by their travels, their samosas and pasties have proven to be extremely popular.

A daily changing menu, seasonal produce and local ingredients (including mussels straight from the fjord and Connemara lamb from a nearby farm) make theirs some of the best street food around.

How does one come to set up a food truck in the middle of nowhere though? Well, that’s easy; love of food, Connemara and each other.

Go for the postcard-pretty views, stay for the falafel.

They’re doing pretty well for one of Ireland’s most remote food trucks.
