Culture Night 2021 comes to Ireland this Friday

Katy Thornton

There’s a lot going on this Friday 17th September, but luckily we have you covered with some of our top events to check out.

With the motto of “Come Together Again” we are thoroughly excited that Culture Night 2021 can go ahead as normal this year. There will still be some online activities but unlike last year there are tons of in-person events this Friday. For those unfamiliar with Culture Night, the website states “it is a national moment, celebrating all that makes up the richness and diversity of culture in Ireland today, connecting people to cultural activities locally and nationally and aims to open up pathways to ongoing engagement”.

Dublin

There’s so much to talk about when it comes to Dublin Culture Night. Check out the pandemic paintings in Dun Laoghaire or the tour at Dublin Ink in Temple Bar. Online events include a talk by Samaritans or a showing of the Erebidae Sundown Circus. We have written a whole article about different events to check out in Dublin here.

Cork

There are over 100 events taking place in Cork on Friday for Culture Night 2021. Events will be held at the Graffiti Theatre Company and the Cork Public Museum. Douglas Library will hold readings and an exhibition, while there will be short film screenings at the Old Cork Waterworks. Online events include a virtual tour of the Centre for Advanced Photonics and Process Analysis and online screenings of Irish films for the Cork International Film Festival. You can check them all out here.

Galway

Galway has a fantastic and extensive line-up for Culture Night 2021. There will be documentary screenings at the Blue Teapot Theatre and a city walking tour by Brendan J. Hynes. Have a look at the 21 painted currach sculptures at The Quad in NUI Galway or check out the Colours Street Art exhibition entitled the Circle of Life. Watch clay-making at Forge Clay or if you’d prefer to stick to online events, why not listen in on Ray Fulton as he tells folklore stories via the Galway City Library. Find everything you need to know about Galway Culture Night here.

Donegal

Donegal is hosting a lot of performances this year for Culture Night. Why not see “Donegal Women’s Voices from the Past – Revolutionary Times” playing at the Donegal County Museum? We also love the look of The Alchemist sculpture trail presented by Inishowen Carnival. Many of these events are free but to require you to book a ticket. Online events include music screenings such as a concert at Arranmore island, presented by Bri Larr and Jonathan Smeaton Live at Blake’s Bar. Check out all the events in Donegal here.

This event is nationwide, meaning every county will be celebrating in one way or another. Keep an eye on the Culture Night website and socials to see how your county is celebrating this year.
