Two people are wanted to manage accommodation on Great Blasket Island for six months

James Fenton

Have you ever just thought about packing up your desk, saying “see ya later” to your colleagues and swanning out of the office with no intention of ever going back? Well, now you can.

Living on a remote island might be a dream for many but it could soon be a reality for you and a friend or significant other. A job vacancy has been announced on Great Blasket Island off the coast of Co. Kerry and anyone who claims not to be tempted is nothing but a liar and you should avoid them at all costs.

The Twitter post says ‘A unique position required – looking for long term management of Island Accommodation and Coffee Shop. Couple or two friends. 1st April 2020 – October 2020 accommodation and food provided.’

As you can see from the accompanying pics, the place is basically paradise when the sun is shining and an extended summer stint here would do anyone the world of good. With accommodation and food provided, while getting to mingle with locals and tourists in one of Irleand’s most beautiful spots, what more could you ask for?

The nearest mainland town to Great Blasket is Dunquin with Dingle just another 15km away. The island is known for being a haven for walkers with countless people heading across on the ferry for day trips, particularly during the summer. Whale and dolphin-watching are also popular activities in the region so there will be no shortage of things to do during your downtime.

Lovin.ie has reached out to the above email address for more information but if you’re suitably intrigued you can do so yourself at info@greatblasketisland.

Be sure to be quick though as demand is bound to be high. Nice knowing ya, 9-5 lifestyle.
