Golf courses will be forced to close across Ireland under the new Level 5 restrictions, it has been reported today.
The
Irish Mirror has revealed that a source close to Minister for Sport Catherine Martin told the publication "no golf, sadly" when asked if the sport can go ahead under Level 5 restrictions. Golf courses were forced to close during the first lockdown in March and April but reopened in May when restrictions eased.
Under the new Level 5 restrictions, only 'professional, elite sports and inter-county Gaelic games, horse-racing and greyhound racing can continue behind closed doors.'
The news will come as a blow to many golf enthusiasts who will be sad to see their pastime taken from them again. Level 5 restrictions will be in place for the next six weeks starting from midnight tonight (Wednesday, October 21). However, the Government is expected to review the situation after four weeks.
