Survey Pinpoints When We’re Most Likely To Overspend

A new survey has revealed that we are more prone to go on a shopping splurge when we are stressed, bored or upset.

The survey was conducted by MoneySuperMarket and has proven that people are more likely to overspend when feeling down.

They research found that those who were sad, stressed or bored were just over 14% more likely to overspend, moreso than those in a happy mood.

Stress was found to be the most costly mood when it comes to indulging in shops.

Forty per cent of women who feel stressed are likely to buy makeup in an attempt to lift their mood. 

While men would much rather head to the pub to get merry.

Not only do we tend to shop for clothes and retail products when we are anxious, but food and travel bills have also been proven to have risen.

In fact, stress and boredom is costing individuals up to approximately €1,400 per year, according to the study.
