Here’s Where Ireland Ranks On The List Of Biggest Drinkers In The World

Darragh Berry

Ireland’s place among the list of countries that drink the most isn’t as high as you would think it is.

The list of how much alcohol is consumed in each country around the world is based on data from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The information – from 2014 – shows the number of litres of pure alcohol consumed per capita in every country.

Great news though: Ireland doesn’t even make the top 5, 10 or even top 20.

We’re a good bit off the pace when it comes to those at the top of the scale with Belarus – the country at number one – drinking 17.5 litres of pure alcohol a head.

Ireland only drinks 11.9 litres a head.

Here’s the top 25 list:

  1. Belarus – 17.50
  2. Moldova – 16.80
  3. Lithuania – 15.40
  4. Russia – 15.10
  5. Romania – 14.40
  6. Ukraine – 13.90
