Leo Varadkar: “It’s too soon for people to be booking flights home for Christmas”

James Fenton

Leo Varadkar has told the Dáil that people shouldn’t be booking flights home for Christmas just yet but he knows that this is a ‘tough message’.

An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has advised that it is “too soon” for people to book flights home for Christmas, adding “I know that’s difficult and I know that’s tough.”

He said that “Christmas is six weeks away” and he would “advise people not to book flights at the moment”. Earlier this week, the Government approved new travel rules which will mean that travellers coming into Ireland from red-listed countries will be required to self isolate for a period of at least five days, after which they will be free to move around as normal – providing they have a negative PCR test result. These rules will come into effect on November 29.
