NPHET confirms that venue staff must be included in wedding numbers

James Fenton

After months of uncertainty, it seems that some summer weddings will be taking place after the government issued a revised roadmap for Ireland’s lockdown exit on Friday.

Many brides and grooms will have breathed sighs of relief after it was confirmed that indoor gatherings of up to 50 people will be allowed to take place from June 29 before that limit is extended to 100 people on July 20. Meanwhile, outdoor gatherings of 200 people (from June 29) and 500 people (from July 20) will also be allowed.

However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that your guest list can be adjusted to meet these numbers. The National Public Health Emergency Team has told RTE that the figures must include venue staff, with ‘organisers, participants and attendees’ all expected to be considered in the final numbers.

NPHET also confirmed that a marquee will be considered as an indoor venue and that physical distancing is still expected to be maintained at weddings.

Dr Tony Holohan has said that the public will learn more about the staging of larger weddings in the coming weeks.
