“Formal attire is mandatory.”
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few weeks, or you’re one of those super cool people who spends their time on meaningful connections and bettering yourself as opposed to just scrolling on TikTok (must be nice) then you’ll undoubtedly have seen the trend of teenagers showing up to the new Minions movie wearing a suit. Maybe I’m just getting old, but while I’ve certainly witnessed the trend, and question every time I see someone in a suit (are they going to work or to the cinema, who knows?) I just don’t really get it. But hey, that’s just on getting older I guess. Moving on.
While I remain perplexed by it, Omniplex Cinemas is leaning into the trend; they’re currently welcoming the group of formal dressing spectators, nicknamed the Gentleminions, to enjoy the film in style. Their website currently has this message:
“Suit up, Gentleminions! You are invited to a special screening of Minions: The Rise of Gru at select Omniplex Cinemas. Enjoy the untold story of one twelve-year-old’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain in true Gentleminions style.”
Following on from Universal Pictures, who highly approved of the trend, Omniplex are officially hosting Minions: The Rise of Gru screenings where “formal attire is mandatory“.
You can be a Gentleminion, and apart of the TikTok trend at Omniplex until the 14th July. Get your tickets HERE. Be advised that the Gentleminion screenings can expect ‘crowd participation’, so those wanting to watch the movie in peace should attend a regular showing.
So, in the words of Barney Stinson (yes, I’m aware that I’m mixing up my references, I know), suit up!
