Omniplex have announced the closure of all cinemas until March 29 due to the outbreak of Covid-19.

Following on from the announcement that pubs across Ireland will close until March 29 due to the outbreak of Covid-19, Omniplex Cinemas have now confirmed that they will close until the same date.

In a post on social media, the company said that ‘We are closing our cinemas in the Republic of Ireland from today until 29th March due to HSE advice on ‘Social Distancing’. We’ll review our re-opening date in line with updated advice. Tickets bought online will be automatically refunded, DM us if you have bought in the cinema.’

Last week, Omiplex announced that in-cinema separation measures would be adopted across all screens in a bid to encourage social distancing. However, today’s update means that cinema-goers will have to wait a few weeks at least to see the latest releases.

As stated above, purchased online tickets will be automatically refunded and those who bought their tickets in cinemas can contact Omniplex directly on Twitter.

On Saturday, the Irish Film Institute also confirmed that it will be closing until March 29.
