This Is How Much Irish Families Spend In The Run Up To Christmas

If you’re reading this after spending a lot of money in the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales then you may need to have a sit down.

Retail Ireland has said that it expects Irish households to spend a whopping average of –gulp– €2,654 in shops for the month of December which is nearly a grand more than any other month of the year.

Apparently, us Irish just love to flash the cash around Christmas time and Retail Ireland believe that the country will spend around €4.5 billion over the festive period this year which is up a significant amount on last year.

However, with all this money floating around, retailers could still lose out as it has been found that a number of people are shopping online using non-Irish websites and are crossing the border to Northern Ireland to do their shopping.

The AA have said that at least one in ten shoppers will head up North in Christmas 2017 and customers can save almost half of their money when they do their shopping in Northern Ireland.

Smart advice would be to get your shopping done PRONTO as they suggest that the week of 18 December will be the “make or break” week and this will prove to be the biggest couple of days for buying the pressies.

Remind us not to check our bank balance again until mid February.
