Seven Mother’s Day gift ideas that your mammy is sure to love

Sarah Finnan

Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend and while it’s never so much about what you do/buy as it is about pampering your lovely mammy, even something small can mean the world.

Many of us may not be able to spend the day itself with our mammies but we can still show we care – albeit from a distance. So, whether you intend on keeping it low-key or plan on splashing out on something fancy, we’ve rounded up a few different options to help you out in the ideas department.

Sustainable goodie box

Fully stocked with several different options, Faerly – an online sustainable store set up during lockdown – has plenty to choose from for the eco-minded mothers out there. Make up your own personalised box or go with a pre-made one like the one below. Packed in plastic-free packaging, it includes a range of sustainable gifts from local producers so well worth supporting.

Handmade Irish chocolate

If your mam is anything like my mam, then chocolate is definitely the way to her heart… I had to get it from somewhere, eh?! Always a reliable gift idea, you can’t go wrong with a bespoke Mother’s Day hamper from Lir Chocolates. Proudly made in Co Meath, each one costs €45 (including delivery) and comes packed full of all sorts of treats including salted caramel truffles, chocolate bars and two different gift boxes. And just in case you needed another reason to seal the deal, €10 from every hamper sale will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Ireland foundation.

JANDO

Founded by husband and wife duo Julie and Owen McLoughlin, most of you will be familiar with JANDO by now. Based in Dublin, their prints combine cinematic perspective with a love of architecture and pop-culture sensibility – making them the perfect gift for a mam looking for something to brighten some of those empty walls. Their range of Ireland prints are some of our faves, though we’re also partial to this beautiful ‘for the birds’ one too.

Lunch from Adare Manor

Food-related gifts are always a win and what better way to show your mam that you love and appreciate her than with a gorge lunch from Adare Manor. Unveiling a specially-curated 5-star Minding Mum option, it comes fully prepared with all the trimmings so all you have to do is reheat/pop it in the oven. Full details and pricing here.

Essential oil diffuser bracelet

You’ve heard of essential oil diffusers… but have you heard of essential oil diffuser bracelets? Admittedly, up until recently, I hadn’t, but they’re a very cool idea and make for great gifts. Designed by Helen Fitzpatrick, the beads include lava, wood and natural pink zebra Jasper – each of which promotes different things. Buy a few of your mam’s favourites, tell her to add a drop or two to the lava bead and the oil will diffuse gradually throughout the day as she wears it. Like perfume, but more stylish.

Charity shop gift voucher

I don’t know about you, but I’m a bit of a charity shop fiend. There’s little I love more than wandering around town on the chazza shop trail and I really (really!) miss being able to bop into my favourite spots for a nosy. A haven for just about anything you can think of (faux fur coats to colourful crockery, old CDs and pre-loved books), Thriftify has been tiding us over in the meantime. A website with 93 per cent of Irish charities signed up to it, a voucher for her is a win-win as you know the proceeds are going to a good cause.

Mother’s Day card

A day that’s less about the grand gesture than it is about showing your mam some love, maybe you already have the gift sorted and just need a card. Sound about right? Dublin-based artist Conor Merriman is one of many talented Irish artists to have come out with his own special Mother’s Day range and, needless to say, they’re absolutely beaut.
